day 1 : FES Sightseeing
Today’s excursion will start from the Mechouar, a giant Dar el Makhzen and stop right at the Royal Palace. You will be definitely mesmerized by the massiveness and sculptures of the seven gates. After that we will Elmellah which is the first Jewish quartier in Morocco, built in the 1430s. Then we will drive up to Borj Sud to see the city of Fes from above.
Our tour will continue as we ride a taxi to visit the gate of Boujloud. As we are in front of the gate you will feel as if you went back in time to the ancient Fes because of its oldness and antiquity. Next, we will visit the Bou inania Quranic school, a monument that is well preserved from the 14th century. It is the largest school to be built by the Meriniens. Following this, we will stop in Dar el Magana which literally means the “watch house”, although you may not see it from the inside due to restoration.
We will head also towards to the tanneries of Fes to see how leather is traditionally made. After a quick in the tanneries, we will move to Essafarine, narrowly colorful streets. We will pass through Souq el-Atterine, as the word suggests it is a boulevard specialized in selling spices of all kinds. We will also have an exclusive tour in Al Qarawiyine Mosque and University and the Atterine Medrassa (entrance fee). This last monument represents a true presentation of the pure Mourish architecture in somewhere between 1323 and 1325 by Merinid Sultan Abou Said Othman. Finally, we will visit el-Nejjarine Square with its fountain and caravanserai (entrance fee).
